A Taste of Emerald Isle
a 14-year-old girl was jammed on the foot Wednesday evening while swimming off Emerald Isle, North Carolina. The teen may have ligament and tendon damage, but she will recover. There is no info on Shark species or no pictures, so instead here are some recently released pictures of a Shark jam that occurred on June 20th in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Jennifer Cation, explains her injuries.

Yay, injuries!

Yay, more injuries!

Keep on jamming and we'll keep on posting,

Is South Carolina the New Florida?

There is still some debate as to whether a Shark jammed 17-year-old Julianne Lenti on her foot in knee-deep water off Litchfield Beach, South Carolina. The Shark was never actually seen and not all authorities are convinced that the wound is completely consistent with a Shark jam. Julianne said that at first she thought it was a Crab that got her, but then she felt teeth. Whatever it was that got her, she needed 12 stitches.

If this was indeed a Shark bite this would make the third jam so far this summer off South Carolina beaches...well, on second thought...South Carolina is no where even close to Florida, but at least Jesse Helms is dead! Oh, Helms was from North Carolina?

Maybe South Carolina is the awkward girl capital of the United States?

Cookie Monster!

C is For Cookie-cutter Shark and that's good enough for me.
Isistius brasiliensis or Cookie-cutter Shark is a savage little beast that gets its name from the circular puncture wounds it leaves in it's prey. It is only about 20-inches long but it can parasitically take down larger prey just by creeping it out. The underside of the Shark is bioluminous--it glows--which can attract fish at their own doom. It bites down on prey, often a Whale, Dolphin or large fish like a Tuna and rotates it's head like a circular drill bit.
This Pygmy Sperm Whale was so creeped out by a Cookie-cutter Shark that it beached itself.
[waltonsun]
A female Pygmy Sperm Whale and her calf were found beached at Lakewood beach in Florida's panhandle on Friday. They were picked up and transferred to Gulf World Marine Park for "rehabilitation," but by Sunday both Whales had died from their trauma. At least they won't have to spend the rest of their lives performing for drooling high-functioners at a marine theme park.

These are Cookie-cutter bites on a Dugong.
Mmmm...Cookies...

A Dozen for New Smyrna--Respect!
A 29-year-old surfer was nipped on the foot on Thursday off the New Smyrna Beach Jetty. It is unlikely he will require stitches--lame. While we are excited that New Smyrna has already reached a dozen bites for the year, we would much rather post photos from last weekend's Mako Mania Shark killing tournament in New Jersey.

Notice anything fishy about this photo?
Oh yeah, this isn't a Mako Shark. Why does this matter? Well, according to the Mako Mania website:
Rule # 9. This is a MAKO ONLY tournament: 66" minimum fork length. For conservation purposes, it is requested that all other sharks be tagged and released.
Nice one. It is good when fishermen respect the rules of the tournaments they "compete" in. So this begs the question: if fishermen aren't going to respect the rules of their fishing tournament, are they going to respect the fish?

Guess not.
But then again, how can we expect a fisherman to respect a fish when he clearly has no respect for himself?

Why are all these jerkoffs so fat?
Why?

You think we were kidding about the Shark bites?
Jennifer Cation was jammed on the leg on Friday morning while wading in chest-deep water off Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Fernandina Beach Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Jeffrey Bunch:
“(She was) in between waves in about chest-deep water when something came up and bit her leg right above her ankle,” Bunch said. “It was pretty severe, (the bite) appeared to be to the bone.”
[source]
The beach was never closed--sweet! There is also no word on the species...hmmmm...Bull Shark?
Since no pictures of the incident have been released we will have to show an unrelated leg jam. We seriously doubt Jennifer's was this bad:

We also doubt that her Shark "incident" was this cool:

Remember, the Shark jams will continue until the bullshit Shark fishing tournaments cease!

The Shark Bites Will Continue Until the Tournaments Cease!

[source]
It took John Vasbinder 40 years of surfing before he got Shark jammed. On June 7, he finally graduated as he was paddling out in Cocoa Beach, Florida. His bite required 45 stitches. Some have said his jammer was a Bull Shark. But it looks like he got off pretty easy for a Bull Shark.
I am predicting that this statistical upswing in Shark incidents will continue until decadent macho Shark tournaments cease in the United States. The 22nd annual Star Island Yacht Club Shark tournament happened last week in Long Island, New York. Twenty four Sharks were hauled in and hoisted aloft for the crowd of drunken spectators to gawk at and smell. The yacht club claims that the tournament is “environmentally sensitive” because they have weight limits. Big deal. Frank Mundus--the king of Shark killing himself--says that out of 12 Sharks caught and released, 10 end up dying do to hook damage to their stomachs. "Environmentally sensitive" indeed. Some of the anti-Shark tournament protesters have received death threats. Classy!

This asshole's Blue Shark murder didn't count because it was under the weight limit. Nice job, cocksucker.

Civilized people showing their support for common sense.
The three species most targeted in these tournaments, Blue Sharks, Mako Sharks, and Thresher Sharks are all threatened.
Read.

An Open Letter to Volusia County
Brenda Quiles, a concerned woman from Oak Park, Illinois, has written an open letter to Volusia county about Sharks. It was published in the Orlando Sentinel. It is very funny.
May 11, 2008
I am concerned about the repetitious shark bites in New Smyrna Beach. I am aware that as of Wednesday there has been an 11th shark bite in Volusia County this year. The most recent one is to a 6-year-old boy.
Correct!

And isn't little Zane Atacha a cutey patoot?
As a tourist, I previously visited New Smyrna Beach and did not notice any posting about the multiple shark bites in New Smyrna Beach.

Like this one?
I am asking Volusia County officials to minimize these shark bites by closing this beach, increasing warnings and lookouts for sharks and advising the public with increased postings throughout the beach area.
You're shitting us right? This is sure to be great for business.

I am also asking county officials to increase awareness of these shark bites by implementing new policies and procedures to limit the number of victims.
There is no reason for there to be 11 shark bites thus far in 2008 and for a 6-year-old child to fall prey to a shark bite when strict newer policies and procedures should have been implemented. With so many shark bites, this beach should be closed. The county is turning a blind eye to providing safety for the public in New Smyrna Beach.
And this expert opinion is based on what? Are you a beach safety aficionado or the resident Shark expert of Oak Park, Illinois? All of these 11 Shark bites were minor and required only a couple of stitches...compare that to a injuries at a local skate park or ski resort. So the entire New Smyrna economy is supposed to be torpedoed because a a couple dozen bathers get snacky-toed?
Hell yeah there's more!
