Ralph, the Whale Shark, died in captivity at the Georgia Aquarium on January 11, 2007. The necropsy results are starting to come back from the labs. Ralph died from peritonitis caused by perforation of the stomach lining.

What caused the perforations? Probably the callus hands at the Georgia Aquarium who were using a tube to force feed the shark. Why were they force-feeding Ralph? Because, Ralph hadn't been eating. Why hadn't he been eating? It seems that he and his tank-mate Norton, the Whale Shark, had been suffering loss of appetite ever since the aquarium had administered a "de-leeching" parasite treatment to their tank. Georgia Aquarium director of husbandry Tim Binder says that the "de-leeching" treatment had nothing to do with the perforation of Ralph's stomach.
